1 Year with my EV6
I’m new to the EV world. Past cars include Tacoma, Subaru STI, Ram 1500, Ford Ranger, and Neon SRT-4. Disliked the look of Tesla; and Prius or leaf were too boring. So when I saw the EV6 it was love at first sight.
This car is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Build quality is good; albeit the paint is a little thin. I’m 5’2” so interior is plenty big for me and quiet. 0-60 in ~4.5 is plenty fast for anyone; in fact I barely ever put it in sport mode unless I want to show up some guy in his mustang ;) Yeah there was a bit of range anxiety at first but honestly; I charge once every 3 weeks and it’s fine for getting around town. Took it on a 1000 mile road trip in August and it was great. Memory seats and mirrors meant that husband and I could trade and not do too much adjusting. Charges were fast and usually coincided with meal breaks so by the time we were done eating the car was charged up.
Now I live in a snowy place so AWD was a must. This is the best vehicle in the snow that I have ever had. Better than my trucks and STI. I’m guessing it’s that ~4500lbs of battery keeping the center of gravity down low. Here’s were I did get annoyed with the car and really it’s Hyundai/KIA fault. There’s no battery preconditioning available for early 22 models in the US. So winter charging took around an hour on the DC to get to 90-100%. I was getting 75 KWh until the battery warmed around 30 minutes into the session. At that point you’d get 150kwh for 5 minutes to get you to 80% and then kWh would drop again. So… as much as I love this car it’s not a winter road tripper until the lows are in tbe 40s or 50s.
Overall: it’s a great car for a good price if you can get it for MSRP. I was lucky enough to get it at MSRP and qualify for the tax incentive but I know that’s not a thing anymore.
