Worth the wait.

After waiting 18 months from pre-order to delivery, there was every chance I had built the car up to be more than what I was getting. Thankfully that was not the case. The cars performance, particularly the steering ratio and how it handles corners, is phenomenal. The different drive modes are really well engineered. I don’t really have any use for the drive mode Active (Engaged in North America), but Whisper is fantastic on the motorway and Untamed (Unbridled) feels like it was designed specifically for my driving style.

The suspension is very firm and sporty, which is great when you’re doing anything above 40mph. It can be a little hard at lower speeds, but the pay off is that it’s phenomenal above 35-40mph

One thing that stuck out early on was just how accurate the range predictor is. In every other EV I’ve driven, you can’t help but get range anxiety due to all of them yo-yo’ing the range. There is none of that in the Mach-E… the range it gives you never suddenly drops by 10 or 20 miles. It’s not unpredictable… it goes as far as it says it will and the only time that changes, is to adds more range… it never deducts. It take away a lot of the range anxiety I’ve experienced in other EVs when you hit 50miles of range left, not knowing if you’ll get 50 or 15! 

Inside the Mach-E is one of my favourite places to be… particularly at night. The materials in the cabin are fantastic and the design and layout just makes me want to never get out. The steering wheel is my favourite. Lovely to grip and beautifully weighted.

On the downside, the app to control and monitor the car remotely, FordPass, is really disappointing. It’s riddled with bugs, it’s not at all intuitive, very slow and laggy and when you have to rely on it for so much, it really sours the ownership experience. Coupled with this is a lack of technical and/or after sales support. Any issues arising from software and such, have nowhere to be lodged. Dealerships don’t know a thing about it and Ford don’t yet have anyone dedicated to help you resolve issues. It seems they rely on forums and forum members to do this… but I’d hate to be someone buying this car blindly with no knowledge of the forums and encountering a software issue. I think it’s a bigger issue than I imagined it would be  

Software issues aside, it’s the best car I’ve owned… it invokes positive emotions. The software issues will be sorted in time. The areas which are most important to me, drive dynamics and handling, build quality and the cabin environment are all 10/10
