Great first EV
I had been looking at going EV for a little while, my diesel lease had ended at the end of 2019 so I was carless for a while.
I was lucky enough that there is a car hire firm in the town I live that have only electric cars on their fleet.
I hired a Hyundai Kona, Kia e-Niro and Tesla Model3 each of them for 3 days when I needed to travel for work. The Kona was immediately removed from my list as I could live with that interior. The Model3 was removed because I sometimes have to carry stuff for work and the salon body just wouldn't work. This left the Kia e-Niro which was firmly at the top of my list until I received the invite to the dealer launch of the EV6. I also test drove an MG5, ŠKODA ENYAQ and Hyundai Ioniq 5
At the launch day in June 2021 I placed my order for my GT Line S. I received my stunning Yacht Blue car in November 2021. Being one of the first cars into the country, there were a number of teething problems. First off the 240 socket in the rear seat was a euro socket not the required UK 3 pin, this wasn't replaced until May 2022. There were also two occasions when the 12v battery died, this seems to have been resolved now with firmware updates. There still is one problem with the sat nav where the previous destinations are all saved with 'unknown' as the date, making this function unusable.
These teething problems aside, this is the best car I've ever owned, previously I've had some very nice BMW, Audi and Volvo, the EV6 outshines all of these. The driving experience is brilliant, whether you're in ECO mode comfortably pottering around town (getting great m/kWh), hairing around B roads (less m/kWh) or cruising on the motorway, you'll arrive at your destination relaxed and smug in the unquestionable knowledge that you've got a cool car. All the safety features make it such an easy car to drive, the adaptive cruise control with adjustable gapping is great and makes even sitting in traffic 'enjoyable'. The augmented reality HUD means you never really have to take your eyes off the road.
One slight problem (not really) is that often when you park there is always someone asking "ohh what's that?", "what's the range?", "are electric cars really useable?". Or they just point out, "wow, that's a beautiful car". I've given 5 test drives to strangers 👍
