The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, is well-known for its luxury without compromise and off-road capabilities. Now Mercedes is revolutionizing the G 580 with all-electric EQ technology.
The traditional internal combustion engine has been replaced by four electric motors, each driving one wheel, together offering a staggering / and of torque. This surpasses even the powerful AMG G 63, making it the most powerful G-Class yet. The acceleration from 0 to in 4.7 seconds is also remarkable.
The electric G 580 is designed to go where the tarmac ends. With a dedicated Crawl mode and two-speed transmission, it promises to tackle even the most challenging terrain. Features such as G-Turn, which allows the vehicle to turn on the spot, and G-Steering for improved agility, transform this heavy off-roader into a surprisingly agile vehicle.
You don't have to worry about damaging your precious battery when off-roading. Mercedes has protected the battery (with a WLTP range of ) with a massive carbon-reinforced protection plate. This protection, together with the higher ground clearance, allows for an impressive wading range of up to , which is more than the version with an internal combustion engine.
Mercedes hasn't yet released a price for the U.S. market for the G 580, but in Europe the new G sells for exactly 142,600 euros (nearly $152,000). The One edition we see in the photos starts at an even higher price of 192,500 euros - that's more than $205,700.
